Return to the Easel: My Artistic Revival

Welcome to My New Creative Chapter

Welcome to my new, or should I say newer, blog. I’m Lisa, a Rotarian, artist, cardmaker, and the creator behind LimiDesignsArt.

For many years, creativity has been part of my life. I have always loved making cards — choosing colors, textures, papers, and small details that turn a simple message into something personal and heartfelt. But painting was something I stepped away from for a long time while raising my family.

Now, after many years away, I have found my way back to the easel.

This return to painting feels different. It is not only about creating art for beauty’s sake, though beauty is certainly part of it. At this stage in my life, my art has a deeper purpose. Through my wildlife-inspired paintings, prints, cards, and gifts, I hope to raise funds for environmental projects through Rotary International.

My current work is inspired by nature, wildlife, and the fragile world we all share. Each painting is a small reminder that the natural world is worth noticing, honoring, and protecting. Whether it is a bee, a tiger, a sea turtle, or another creature from the wild, I want my art to carry a message of care and connection.

This blog will be a place where I share my creative journey — the stories behind my paintings, my love of cardmaking, updates from LimiDesignsArt, and the purpose behind this new chapter.

Thank you for being here at the beginning.

Art with heart. Creativity with purpose. Nature worth protecting.

Longtime no see….

Boy! Has it been a loooonnnnggg time! I stepped back after the death of my mother in law because the creative juices just dried up.

During the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020, I did begin to draw again (I will upload those drawings someday) but only with the arrival of the winter 2020 semi lockdown and with no where to go did I begin again. I had ordered some beautiful Washi Tape this past summer from the Washi Tape Shop. Beautiful oriental themed washi tape, and, although, I had had it a while, I really didn’t know what to do with it….until….what the heck, let’s use it as a background!

I covered some cardstock with the different types and then, cut out shapes. Still, not knowing what to do, I found some very old dies in my stash that were used very, very seldom… if ever and seldom used rubber stamps. Here are some of these oriental inspired cards and I just love them!

How time does fly!

My, my…time does fly. It has been a long time since I have written and I must say that I have not done any cardmaking. (well…one or two).

At the moment, my heart is not in it but I hope it comes back sometime, but not too soon as I am very busy with other things at this time.

I did take an online course for coloring with colored pencils through Craftsy. Loved every minute of it and learned a lot! The course taught how to do portraits that look like photographs. I only had Prismacolor on hand but I learned so much technique. I would advise anyone who wants to step up their game to challenge themselves to this course.

Here’s my final drawing …

I have also just completed a portrait of a friend of mine…

On to my next work. Thanks for stopping by.

An Elephant never forgets…

Hello all,

It has been a long time since I have posted anything. Sorry about that but life gets in the way sometimes. Unfortunately, this means that my card making has taken a back seat! 😦

Anyway….for the Crafty Creations Challenge 369 Design Team I have created this adorable card using DigiStamps4Joy! Great place to check out an fill up your stamp collection!

cccchallenge card

I used a box style card I had seen on Jennifer McGuire and used a Hampton Art stamp called Color Me Sunshine by Angela Porter. The whole ensemble came together well and just makes me smile. This is the perfect birthday card for all ages!

Thank you all for your patience!

Ciao for now,

Lisa

If a bear sees its shadow in a shadow box…..

Does that mean winter is still with us? Hope not!!! I’m already sick of it. Last week we got hit with snow in Italy and it paralysed everything! This week…rain, rain and more rain. Oh well, March marches in like a lion….let’s hope it marches out like a lamb….. 🙂

I have fallen in love with shadow boxes. These are my first attempts (I don’t have the die for it)…yet.

bear diarama 3

The first one is wintering in feel and the second is springtime!!!!  I just had a fun time layering everything using MFT’s Polar bear pals and I had a couple of critters from Lawn Fawn’s Toboggan Together and Waffle Flower’s Happy Day stamp.

So cute I can bearly stand it!!!!

Pun intended!!! I just love the Waffle Flower Happy Day stamp with this adorable bear. I had a lot of fun making these slider cards with hidden slides.  All the flowers and the funky bear just make me smile.

Enjoy!

Coloring, coloring, coloring….

vintage girl i miss you
First try…Copic with Prismacolor on Neenah Solar White

vintage girl i heart you.jpg
Second try…. Copic and Prisma on Neenah Desert Storm…it actually looks better in person…. :/

I had bought this stamp by W Plus 9 a few years back because I just loved the image…and I still do, but, for some reason, I never used her in anything! I think I was a bit afraid to color her in and make her look like a little girl and not a blob.

I have been trying to work on my coloring skills. I follow Jane Allen, Sandy Allnock, Amy Shulke of Vanilla Arts and others. I have Derwent Inktense, which I love but I they didn’t give me the color I wanted when dry so I bought some Prismacolor premiere. They are wonderful pencils with bright colors and the white pencil really stands out but, they are all off centered and pain to sharpen. It’s a shame that the quality is not there.

Anyhooo….getting back to my coloring, I couldn’t wait to try everything out. I stamped out a couple of images on Neenah Solar 80 lb. cardstock and began coloring with Copic. I then went over lightly with my Prismacolor to add a bit more dimension. I like how she turned out.

O then decided to try stamping her on Neenah Desert Storm with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and colored her with Copics and then Prisma. I am not as pleased with this result but it’ll do.

Let me know what you think and if you have any tips for me. I would appreciate hearing from you.

Ciao for now,

Iddy, biddy Tiddly Inks….

As I have mentioned before, I love Tiddly Inks stamps…and especially the digi stamps. They are so versatile! I love how they can be combined and layered and resized. There is a sense of freedom in working with them.

I ordered a few stamps from Tiddly Inks last week and am having fun making cards with them. Enjoy!
