Echoes of the Currents

What if the ocean is trying to tell us something?

The ocean has always spoken.

Not with words, but through the rhythm of its tides, the movement of its currents, and the countless lives it sustains beneath the surface. For centuries, these silent messages have remained in balance. Today, however, those echoes carry a different story.

Echoes of the Currents was inspired by that idea.

At first glance, the painting is vibrant and alive. Swirling turquoise, deep blues, emerald greens, and shimmering gold create an abstract underwater world filled with movement and energy. As your eyes wander across the canvas, fish gradually emerge from the currents—not isolated from their surroundings, but inseparable from them. They seem to drift in and out of existence, almost dissolving into the water that both sustains and threatens them.

That was intentional.

My creative process always begins with abstraction. I pour paint onto the canvas and allow it to flow freely, creating patterns I cannot completely control. Eventually, an animal begins to reveal itself. It often feels as though nature is already there, waiting to be discovered rather than painted.

For this piece, the currents became more than water.

They became a symbol of change.

Ocean currents regulate climate, distribute nutrients, and support some of the richest ecosystems on Earth. Yet today, pollution, warming seas, and human activity are altering these fragile systems. Fish that once thrived now face habitats that are rapidly changing. Many species must adapt, migrate, or struggle simply to survive.

The fish in this painting continue to swim.

They are resilient.

But resilience should never be mistaken for invulnerability.

That message lies at the heart of my Whispers of the Wild series. Rather than depicting dramatic moments of crisis, I choose to tell quieter stories—stories that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and consider what may one day exist only as memories.

Art has the power to start conversations where statistics often cannot.

A painting cannot clean an ocean or restore a reef, but it can inspire someone to care. And caring is where meaningful action begins.

That is why every piece I create is part of something larger.

Through Impact Beyond the Canvas, all net proceeds from my artwork and products support environmental projects through The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Every print, greeting card, or gift becomes more than a purchase—it becomes a small investment in protecting the natural world.

The fish in Echoes of the Currents continue their journey through waters that are beautiful, mysterious, and increasingly uncertain.

The question is whether we will ensure that future generations can still hear those echoes.
