I thought I’d try something new. I fell in love with Tattered Lace’s Country Manor dies and bought Alice. I love her southern belle look. It arrived and I immediately die cut the whole shebang….but…then what? I looked online for inspiration and I knew I wanted her to be coming out of a frame but I also wanted a garden in the background. I didn’t have any paper and thought about downloading a bucolic

garden scene but felt guilty for trademark reasons so I squashed that idea and took out my watercolors and began painting my own scene.

I know it’s busy but I kinda like it. I messed up coloring (with Copic) the bird in her outstretched arm but instead of starting over, I just lopped it off…so now, she’s just strolling along.

This is a difficult die to cut….and extremely delicate to put together with all the small parts that need to be glued.

If anyone has any tips on using this die set, I am all ears!

Yes, it is that time of year where one should begin to make Christmas cards…..so, I have started! This past weekend I got my mojo back in making a few cards using my Lawn Fawn stamps and dies. They are so adorable!

I just love these little deer. I colored the background using Copic ink directly from the refill bottles my painting it on, first with a brush and then adding droplets of the ink directly onto the surface.

I like how it turned out.

On the second card, I used the penguins from the same stamp set (Toboggan Together). I used the mirror stamping technique for the second penguin. I had trouble getting a decent image but then found help on a tutorial from Paper Smooches on the need to condition the transfer stamp before doing the mirror image. It helped immensely and saved me from tearing my hair out! I also added Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Mountains border to add a bit of interest. The background was done in the same way but I added Lindy’s Stamp Gang Moon Shadow Mist and Perfect Pearls Mists to give some shimmer to the sky.

I was going to frame it to hide that wee bit of white at the top but decided against it as it would not have covered it anyway and it would have covered too much of the scene.

Now to look through my stash and make more so I will, at least this year, be able to send out the cards on time. LOL

Boy has it been a while. I have been gone for a bit and was unable to make anything but now I am back and getting geared up.

Next week is my grandson’s 1st birthday and, while I can’t go to the states and celebrate due to work commitments, my husband is going.

I knew that I had wanted to make an easel card but I wanted one where the elephant is swinging. I have never made an easel card before so looking up tutorials on google I came across Elizabeth Craft design hanging charm card. I looked at how the set up was and made a couple of prototypes (I needed a 5×7 card). I love how it turned out!

For the last couple of weeks I have been trying out other types of cards. I had come across exploding boxes and have always liked them but was kind of afraid to try it out but…no time like the present so….

I set to work and had a ton of fun! I made an exploding box birthday castle with a dragon  and another with flowers using Elizabeth Craft Design Dies Rose 2, cutting them in white cardstock and spritzing them with gold

The castle was made by rolling us cardstock and glueing it all together. The Dragon is from MFT Magical Dragons

I have been gone for the past couple of weeks on vacation to the beautiful country of Scotland. My husband and I had been wanting to go for a while but after seeing the Outlander series we were determined!

I could go on and on about the beauty of the country. Yes, it is wet and cool but the landscape varies from highland mountains that seem to weep (near Glencoe) up to rolling meadows and cliffs that hit the north sea near John O’Groats.

The constant in this nation is the dotting of these black faced sheep…everywhere! Yes, there are also white faced ones as well, but the black faced ones are adorable. The sheep dot the green landascape and from a distance can seem like little puffy white clouds. On some of our treks, we would walk right in the middle of the herd and they just look straight at you and then go “behhhhh” and walk away. 🙂

To remember these images I decided to draw some images (I will make them in digi stamps), played around with a layout and drew away. I have a feeling I’ll be making a series of these.

They were colored with copic markers and then matted. Enjoy! Now, I need to work on the heilin’ coos and have a dram of whisky. Cheers!

I’ll be heading to Scotland at the end of the month and couldn’t help but think that it would be fun to make a card that somehow gave the “taste” of Scotland. What better way than castles and dragons and plaid?

I saw MFT MFT’s Sketch Card Challenge   

and thought to give it a whir. I have the Magical Dragons by MFT stamp set and  Princess Castles by Tiddly Inks digi stamp. I used the Memory Box Stitched Cloud Trio Die and cut a square frame using a couple of different nesting dies that I’ve had for ages. They are of different brands and I apologize that I do not remember who they are from. The paper is Graphic 45 By the Sea.     I change the color scheme a tad by going over the lines of the plaid in Copic markers and cut the borders using    SSS Stitched Slopes and Hills. Just added the google eyes and I was set… Enjoy!

I’ve been awol these past few days (longer actually), not because I haven’t been working on cards but BECAUSE I have been working (or trying) something new.

I have fallen in love with those magic slider cards. I even got the kit from Lawn Fawn, which is great BTW. But, I had seen where the colored image comes out of the card and I really wanted to try that one so….

I found many a site with tutorials on how to do the card. I tried several and even tried to do my own but the outside of the pull out was bulky. Today, I came across Splitcoasters.com /magic card tutorial like it best. I have made serveral over the past week 1/2 and unfortunately, many was a ripped up. lol I also have been giving some as birthday cards to friends. Here is my first set included Lawn Fawn’s Plane and Simple stamp set. My first set had the plain white background but I preferred another approach so I made it look like it was flying through clouds.

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I adore TiddlyInks digi stamps.  I had ordered Thankful Heart Wryn but was waiting for my new printer to arrive. (I have an Epson Stylus 1500W and I have never had a problem with smearing.) I printed out my images and ended up with this card.  I love how she turned out.

As I have mentioned before, I love Tiddly Inks Stamps. Her little characters make me smile! Chirsty Croll is so talented!  That being said…

  A while back I had downloaded one of her coloring books because I love to color. I found this image that I thought would make an adorable card so I resized it, printed out two copies, colored with Copic markers, cut out one and pasted it on the other to form a 3D effect. As I wanted her coming out of the frame, I drew in the part of the hat that was cut off in the original and just glued in on the back. I added a bit more dimension using Glossy Accents on all of the circles in the picture as well as on the butterflies.

I was asked over the weekend to make a baby card for the birth of a baby girl. I really didn’t have much time as I had been  away for our Rotary District Conference this past weekend, but said that I would get started on it as soon as I got home. I started work on it at 8 pm and the gal came to pick the card up at 9:30 this morning.

Since I still had stuff all over my desk from my last card (the quilt) I decided to make a baby quilt for this one. I still have a ton of scraps and I am glad to be using them up. The difference with this card, as compared to the last, is that I cut the pieces out as I went along instead of pre cutting them because I wasn’t quite sure of the design I wanted. I drew a grid, lightly with pencil, on the card first to help me with placement and then began playing around. The paper is still Graphic 45 “From Baby to Bride”. After everything was laid out and glued down, I cut it down to size and pasted it on peach cardstock. The inside is personalized with the child’s name. I embossed the patchwork with the Sizzix embossing folder “Country Foliage”: I think I’ve used this embossing folder more in the last few days than since I bought it several years ago! LOL

I could’ve (and was tempted) left the front with no added embellishments but but I cut out the baby carriage for Mariann Designs Dies, added a touch of bling on the wheels and a bow in the middle of the carriage.
